About Me

I’m a Scottish artist. I want to make things that bring art into people's everyday lives. So, much of my work is functional or wearable; like bookmarks or brooches and necklaces. But quite a lot of the things I make are objects that exist simply to be art. I try to make things affordable because I think that art should be a natural part of daily life for people - this is part of my project as an artist and why I don't just keep my work to myself!

I’m fascinated by the natural world with all its forms and textures and wild creatures. And almost equally inspired by the fantastical silliness of medieval marginalia - the weird little creatures and scenes tucked into the margins of old mediaeval manuscripts.

The marginalia interest overlaps with my interest in overlooked, “marginal” spaces, which is why I like to make door toppers so much – to occupy those quiet corners of daily life that often go unnoticed. I create pieces to live there on purpose, turning those forgotten places into spaces for beauty, curiousity, and the joyful silliness that is the spirit of marginalia. I believe that joyful silliness is something the art world often neglects, and I want to remedy that!

Every piece I offer is made entirely by me, from original design to final finish, at every stage of production. Whether hand-painted, or carved, or sculpted, glazed, stained and finished – it's all done by me. This is why I so often have “bare shelves” in my shop – I am unable to mass-produce or keep up with high demand, so please be patient with me!

Each item is created with intention and belief in the value of art for everyone, whether it sits proudly on a mantelpiece or hides in the margins.
